What makes Core Performance Kids different?

Our Core Performance Kids program is a method for teaching CrossFit to children aged 5-18. Based on the principle of Movement, Consistency and then Intensity, Core Performance Kids improves mobility throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the programme can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

Core Performance Kids is meant to be BIG, (Broad-Inclusive-General) fun for all ages. Fun means we provide an active alternative for parents to choose as an after school activity, leading towards less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children.  The programme is achievable for any age range or level of fitness, thus all exercises can be altered for any ability level. Core Performance Kids is inexpensive and often requires little or no equipment, making it an accessible exercise programme for all.

General age-appropriate guidelines:

Kids (ages 5-8): These classes teach not only basic physical skills, but also social skills and confidence. Children learn foundation movements like the squat, push-ups, pull-ups, climbing, jumping, and elementary gymnastic movements. More importantly, you will see your child also learns to follow directions, listen, communicate, and play with others. Every class includes fitness game play and positive reinforcement. Your child’s confidence, both physically and mentally, will grow with each class.

Kids (ages 9-12): In this class our Kids are on the road to becoming the next generation of Core Performance superstars. This programming is leading towards a more advanced level of exercise, including bigger and more demanding exercises. Weight training will transition from dumbbells to barbells, with the emphasis still on using the least amount of weight possible, allowing the body to adapt to the external stimulus. Workouts will be of higher intensity than the 5 - 8 age programme, classes continue to include game play and positive reinforcement, as well as discussions on what was learnt in each class. As children progress through the programme, they will be asked to model movements, lead exercises, and demonstrate an ability to verbally explain exercises.

Teens (ages 13-18): For our Teens programme follows the same format as the 9-12 age range, however we can now take the intensity to a new level. If you are new to the programme then this isn't a problem, Core Performance coaches tailor make the programme exercises to the ability of the participants.
